Kool House

Hurley
Cornelius Kool, first owner of Kool House, arrived in Hurley in 1690. He had large landholdings and was the second wealthiest man in the township. The earliest surviving portion of the house he inhabited in 1710 is on the west side of the current house. Kool added a large room with two fireplaces and distinctive decorative brickwork in 1735.  Kool made additions with more Dutch features in the middle of the 18th century, and in 1760 altered parts of the house to include Anglican features, as was fashionable. Many Dutch features have survived, including the outline of the original roof.
