The original portion of the Elmendorf House was built by Pieter Pieterse Ostrander about 1710. It was one room with a jambless fireplace on the back wall and an upstairs garret. By 1730 another room had been added and in 1735 Lucas Elmendorf became owner. In 1750 and 1760 further additions were made. The house functioned as a tavern in the late 18th century and as a store and post office in the early 20th century. The house was continuously owned by members of the Elmendorf family from the 1735 to 2008.
