Four centuries ago, Henry Hudson accidentally discovered a 150-mile stretch of the Hudson River – from New York City northward to Albany – when his Halve Maen crew was searching out a more direct, less costly trade route to the Far East for the Dutch East India Companies.
Why should we celebrate the past?
Today, the Valley of the Hudson River is a cornerstone of history that carries traditions rooted in the culture of these first settlers. Hudson’s exploration opened the way for early settlement by the Dutch, who brought with them their culture, influence and passion for tulips.
